Buried actor Ryan Reynolds is in talks to head the cast of the Highlander remake, Variety reports. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) is set to direct the project, and Matt Holloway and Art Marcum have scripted the work. Summit, part of the Lionsgate company, acquired the rights to the work back in 2008. There is no production or release date set as of yet.

Highlander was a cult classic 1986 film starring Christopher Lambert, which followed an immortal Scottish swordsman who battles other immortal fighters in order to claim a sought-after ability named The Prize. The film spawned several sequels and a TV series.

Reynolds is at the top of his game, just coming off one of his biggest grossing films, Safe House, and will be looking for another hit role. Having played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he proves that he is no stranger to swordplay.
