Edgar Wright and Working Title have set September as their start date for the last entry to the ‘Blood and Cornetto’ trilogy, The World’s End with the plan to release it in spring 2013, Deadline reports. As with the previous installments Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, Wright and Simon Pegg wrote the script and Pegg will star with Nick Frost. Whilst Universal Pictures has yet to give the project the go-ahead, with the high level of success from these small budget comedy features it is highly likely that it will be green lit soon. Working Title partners Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and Big Talk Production’s Nira Park are producing the film.

The story, with pub-loving characters already reminiscent of those of Shaun of the Dead:

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

Simon Pegg tweeted a hint about the project yesterday, whetting the appetite of fans:

Job after that involves being an author again and the job after THAT will hopefully involve plasma and gelato if you catch my drift.
