The Graveyard Book, the best-selling children’s novel by Neil Gaiman, has been picked up by Disney in a big six-figure deal for a film adaptation, according to Deadline. The novel is an eerie take on Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, following a boy who is raised by ghosts in a graveyard. The project has found its director, and is now looking for a screenwriter.

Neil Jordan (director of Interview with the Vampire and The Brave One) was set to direct the film, but the project fell through and has remained dormant until now. Henry Selick (best known for directing The Nightmare Before Christmas) will now direct the project, having directed a film adaptation of one of Gaiman’s novels before with 2009’s animation Coraline. Selick’s eye for strange, eerie animation and film will certainly bring great vision to this dark tale, particularly with the backing of Disney. But the project will have to wait a while, as Selick is currently working on an upcoming classified Pixar film. The Gotham Group reps Selick.
