The first trailer for the much anticipated reinvention of the classic novel The Three Musketeers, starring Matthew Macfayden, Logan Lerman, Milla Jokavich and Christoph Waltz has finally found its way into our lives courtesy of Summit Entertainment. The latest version of the tale sees the young D’Artagnan (Lerman) join forces with three former legendary Musketeers (played by Macfayden, Ray Stevenson and Luke Evans) who find themselves back in action, battling to save the throne of France from the villainous Milady de Winter (Jovovich) and Cardinal Richelieu (Waltz).

The film which has been (unnecessarily) shot in 3D looks like it will prove to be a hit with new audiences. Similar to the 1993 version starring Keifer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen and Chris O’Donnell, the new release doesn’t look as if it’s going to take itself too seriously. Director Paul W.S Anderson looks to have created a fair balance between action, drama, and humour, whilst at the same time honouring the history in which the novel was written. As a big fan of the 1993 version, I’m not sure whether or not Anderson’s re-telling looks AS great, maybe a few aspects look too overdone and over-the-top, but then again, the unexpected addition of Milla Jokovich, Orlando Bloom and James Corden to the cast has only served to excite me.  Try not to get too excited just yet though, The Three Musketeers isn’t released in the UK until October 14th.
