Universal are currently in talks to make a sequel to the 2010 superhero hit Kick-Ass, Deadline reports. The cast of the original are in talks to reprise their roles, including Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass), Chl Grace Moretz (Hit-Girl) and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Red Mist). Due to commitments to a sequel to X-Men: First Class, original director Matthew Vaughn will not helm the follow up to Kick-Ass but will be backing the project. Thus, Jeff Wadlow (writer/director of Cry Wolf) has stepped in to direct the film. Even though he has already written a script, he is currently working on Non-Stop – an action-thriller starring Liam Neeson due out 2013 – so chances are we won’t see Kick-Ass 2 for a while.

In the comic sequel by Mark Millar (illustrated by John Romita Jr.), Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl set up a team of ‘superhero’ allies (Justice League/Avengers style) whilst Red Mist counteracts by setting up a team of ‘super-villains’. Both sides have fathers to avenge from the original story. With the first film staying fairly faithful to the original comic book (aside from the origin story of Big Daddy and Hit-Girl and the fate of Dave and Katie’s relationship), it would be fair to assume that the film sequel will take on the story of the comic book sequel.

Hopefully the sequel will stay as funny, fresh and action-packed as the original film was back in 2010.
