Wes Anderson has announced that he has created a short film to accompany his recent movie release Moonrise Kingdom, which was released in selected theatres on the 25th of May. The film focuses on the romantic relationship between teenagers Suzy (Kara Hayward) and Sam (Jared Gilman) and the effect it has on everyone around them when they decide to run away together.

This will not be the first time Anderson has decided to create a companion piece to one of his movies; in 2007 he created a short film entitled Hotel Chevalier to accompany and complement The Darjeeling Limited. Speaking to ComingSoon, Anderson described his accompaniment to Moonrise Kingdom, which tells the story within protagonist Suzy’s beloved books:

“[The character of Suzy has] a suitcase full of these young adult fantasy type novels […] Sort of sci-fi/fantasy books. We had to invent them and give a little glimpse of each one. Different artists, most of whom very close to the filmmakers, were doing these. In fact, we have now animated them, each little passage, each in the style of the cover of the book. We’ve made a little short film that’s hosted by Bob Balaban, the narrator in our movie. That will come out next week on the internet. It’ll be a little companion piece to the movie.”

The short film is due to be released online next week, though an exact date has not yet been confirmed.
