E3 News: Microsoft’s Don Mattrick Tells People Without An Internet To Buy An Xbox 360 Instead

Now this is really disheartening, and is an absolutely unprofessional way to handle a situation, especially after all the slack Microsoft has been getting lately for making their Xbox One nothing but a DRM box.

When asked over on Gametrailers before their E3 conference, about their once a day online requirement and about how it would affect people without an internet connection, Don Mattrick blatantly said…

“Fortunately we have a product for people who aren’t able to get some form of connectivity; it’s called Xbox 360,”.

Which, in my opinion is a very unprofessional and unsympathetic answer. He keeps saying, he wants to do it for gamers, but yet he doesn’t understand what most gamers want! Also, why buy Xbox 360? Why not buy PS4!

OK, before I head forward, lets take a step back, and clear out why people are angry with this online requirement. You see, most of us might be fortunate enough to be living in a great place, where the internet connection is really stable and fast. However, some people don’t live in such fortunate conditions, they don’t have high-speed or stable connections where they are, and some don’t have it at all. In fact, there are many places in America alone where the internet connection isn’t reliable. Same thing in Europe and many other countries, where some cities have singular providers. Should this mean that people who buy the Xbox One, should pay the price for not having an internet connection? Does that mean it is OK for Microsoft to not treat everyone equally?

Well, looks like that is what Don Mattrick meant, when he said those words. You see, the reason I say this is unprofessional and uncalled for is because, it gives users a very bad impression. It tells them that Microsoft does not care, and are catering to their so-called “target audience”. It also tells us that they are willing to put no effort into coming up with a solution for people who actually want the Xbox One.

I would imagine that many people are laughing at Microsoft, and are making fun of them, especially because they may not be buying one. However, think about the loyal fans, they must be heartbroken, especially if they live in an area where a stable internet connection is the highest of luxuries.

However, lets talk about the most important people, who would probably not have an internet connection. The proud members of the armed forces, and I am not talking about any specific ones, I am talking about every soldier, from any country who loves to play video-games during the downtime on their deployment? You know what would be really cool, and what would show that Microsoft had even a bit of sympathy?

If they actually made a version for the soldiers, one that doesn’t require online checks! That would be amazing, but unfortunately, that will never happen. Microsoft should consider it, because our troops, no matter which country they are from, live constantly in fear, day and night defending our countries and lives. They deserve some downtime, and if they want to play Xbox games, then let them play Xbox games!

Still though, I don’t really see any problems for the soldiers with this situation, as they can easily buy a PS4, which will be cheaper than Xbox and totally unrestricted. In fact, I would personally tell anyone to consider buying that if they have connection instability issues, or if they basically don’t like online checks. However, I sincerely feel sorry for the loyal fans of Xbox who had to hear so much bad news, especially during these few months.

It really is depressing to know, that something you were really looking forward to won’t be up to the expectations. Lastly, another great thing this gen is, that unlike the last time, and due to the similar architecture this time, most Xbox games will be coming to the PC as well, such as TitanFall, which to be honest, looks absolutely amazing!
