Fight Club got oily with Hakan

In Glendale California, Friday 23rd, Capcom hosted a pre-release event for Super Street Fighter 4 displaying the new characters. The event started at 8pm, but my adventure started a bit before that, lets try 4pm.

So as suggested on the Capcom blog, the first 200 people were given a ticket, I was lucky enough to get # 199. While in line for the event I met a few new faces such as Charles Babb(Producer / Game  Designer for Activision) as well as Cosplayers. A team of 5 all cosplayed together for the event and waited a head of me in line, the characters that were cosplayed were, Dhalsim, Cammy, Chun-Li, and What appeared to be Evil Ryu. As pictures were taken and more and more attention arose, A NEW CHALENGER APPEARS. Out of no where a fan Cosplying for Ibuki came in like a true ninja, which naturally brought more attention and picture taking.


The event started letting people in at 8pm but were only letting in a few people at a time, being # 199 (with a ticket). While having fun talking to Charles Babb and watching people get impatient, we finally were able to enter by 9:45pm. A long wait for only 200 people in, but it was worth it. 

Once inside it was all visible, being a small event it had a moderate amount of stations to play he game before release. On top of the free pizza, sodas, and full sized monster energy drinks, was an un-official Champion tournament between a few World Tournament champs. The Battles were furious and to close to measure, but Ono came through most of the time. As shy as he is, he was a good sport to give autographs and take pictures.

After the battles, the staff of the event rounded everyone up for the “Special Event”. Remember the notice to wear something you don’t mind being destroyed? Well to introduce “Hakan” to the Street Fighter roster, they poured oil on participants and let them wrestle in a small ring-like area. While they Wrestled the The voice Actor for Hakan shouted at the participants in a way that Hakan would cheer them on saying such things as “POUR MORE OIL ON THEM” or “TIME TO GET OILED”.

The Prize for this event was a copy of the game case and all, no promo codes, the legit copy. Too bad I didn’t enter, there were only 10 copies to go around.
Other than the action events there was a man Painting His art of Street Fighter.

As for the ticket of the first 200, we all got a event poster and an event shirt. Over all this party was bangin and full of oily goodness.
