After a rather busy spell, Leonardo DiCaprio is set to take an extended break from acting. After a busy spell that began in 2010 with Shutter Island and is set to culminate this year with the release of both the long-awaited The Great Gatsby and Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, DiCaprio admits he is feeling ‘drained’ and will be taking a ‘long, long break’ that will begin after his most current project with the aforementioned Scorsese.

Speaking to German newspaper Bild, he says:

I am a bit drained. I’m now going to take a long, long break. I’ve done three films in two years and I’m just worn out. I would like to improve the world a bit. I will fly around the world doing good for the environment.

Needless to say, he probably deserves it. Part of me can’t help but feel though that perhaps the reason he is ‘drained’ is that he pours absolutely everything into anything he undertakes and is embarrassingly underappreciated. Let’s just take a moment and remind ourselves of the films for which he was NOT nominated for an Oscar.

Revolutionary Road (2008)

Shutter Island (2010)

Django Unchained (2012)

And that’s just since his last nomination! Lest we forget he wasn’t nominated for The Departed (unbelievable) or Catch Me If You Can either. Then, on the other side of the universe, Denzel Washington somehow WINS for Training Day and walks into a nomination this year for the abysmal Flight. Go figure.

Too right he should disappear for a while. But we’ll only be too glad to welcome him home.
