PlayStation-VR-Promo

There were plenty of announcements at E3 the other week. Some of them smaller than others and a few of them easy to miss entirely. The release date of PlayStation VR was finally confirmed to be October 13th and along with that there were a fair few PSVR games announced. Although we’ve covered some of them on the site you might’ve missed a few, so let’s have a look through them.

Statik

Statik is a VR puzzle game that seems to take a few notes from the glorious world of psychology. It looks interesting although the reveal trailer doesn’t really show off that much, it’s definitely one to keep an eye on.

Batman: Arkham

When it comes to IP’s that could sell more or less anything Batman is up there with Mickey Mouse and The Simpsons. So the fact that there’s a VR game based on Batman shouldn’t shock anyone. Batman: Arkham has a trailer that doesn’t show off much but it does have the voice of The Joker and states you’ll experience Gotham City through the eyes of The World’s Greatest Detective. Hopefully it’ll be more than a short experience that could just be a tech demo. We’ll find out when it releases in October. It’s being developed by Rocksteady so fingers crossed.

How We Soar

Flight is something that several developers are trying to capture in virtual reality. How We Soar seems to be trying something a bit different judging from its reveal trailer though, with a lovely almost papercraft art style. Until we know more about it it will be hard to pass judgement but it’s definitely looking like one of the more promising flight based VR games.

Tethered

It seems that Tethered is a cute take on the God Game. You tell your minions to build and harvest in the day time, preparing for an attack from monsters in the evening. The top down point of view seems like a smart way to play on the God Game genre that we will no doubt be seeing a lot of. Tethered will be out in the Autumn.

Battlezone

Battlezone is looking much sharper since it was shown off last year. A remake of the tank combat classic it seems like the perfect game for virtual reality. Previews of the game continue to be positive and the game will be coming first to PlayStation VR, which is a nice touch.

Robinson: The Journey

Robinson: The Journey is one of the more interesting looking PlayStation VR games showed off so far. Developed by Crytek it looks beautiful graphically. Hopefully it can deliver with some interesting experiences. In it you control 12-year-old Robin, the last human survivor of a crashed space ship. It’s a nice concept and the voice acting in the existing trailers so far seems top notch.

RIGS Mechanized Combat League

RIGS is going to be a launch title is something that we can take from E3. It seems like a good idea for a virtual reality eSport that hopefully builds a decent community. Who doesn’t love sports and robots?

100ft Robot Golf

When it comes to silly gimmick games VR will have plenty. Of all of them so far 100ft Robot Golf is probably one of the most intriguing. It’s golf… with giant robots… made by the team behind Roundabout. It’ll no doubt be very fun if you like your games to not take themselves very seriously.

Thumper

Thumper looked great before it got announced that it would be on PlayStation VR. A game that describes itself as a “rhythm hell” game it seems unrelenting. With music by one half of Lightning Bolt that’s hardly a surprise. It seems like a game that people can enjoy without VR but it definitely goes up a level when immersed in it through virtual reality.

There were plenty of other games shown off for PlayStation VR, some that we have mentioned on the site already like Farpoint and Here They Lie. Not only that but there were plenty of VR games there that are on other platforms, such as EVE: Valkyrie. Not to be left out there were big AAA games that announced, at the very least, virtual reality modes in their games, such as Final Fantasy XV. The biggest shock was probably that Resident Evil 7 would be completely playable in PlayStation VR from launch.

Whether or not Sony’s headset takes off from the get go is yet to be seen but, judging from E3, there will definitely be some interesting things to try out on it.
