That stunning gameplay trailer for The Last of Us Part 2 wasn’t the only news we had regarding the highly anticipated sequel from Naughty Dog, because the game’s directors, Anthony Newman and Kurt Margenau spoke to both Polygon and GameSpot respectively, confirming that multiplayer will be making a return in some form.

When speaking to Polygon about multiplayer, Newman said that “We’re really excited to share details about it, but that’s going to be at a later date.”  While Newman said to GameSpot that Factions will be “coming back”, then Margenau added that while multiplayer is coming, they’re not able to reveal “what form it takes” as of yet.  So does that mean Factions will have a new spin?

So while we have very little to go by at this time, I’m happy that multiplayer will be returning with The Last of Us Part 2, because while it was a fantastic addition in the original game, it was perhaps not as popular as it deserved to be.  But I’d certainly at least be happy to see Factions to once again be at its core.

Currently there is no confirmed release date for The Last of Us Part 2, but hopefully it will release next year with a bit of luck.
