Last night at the Video Game Awards, a trailer debuted for a new game by a company called Moby Dick Studio. This game is called The Phantom Pain, where you play a man trying to escape a hospital that seems to be under attack. What interested gamers about the trailer was a few sprinkles of details that lead them to believe that this may in fact be a secret trailer for Metal Gear Solid V. In the few hours that have passed, the internet has been hard at work at getting a bunch of details together and I shall now attempt to list them all here for your reading pleasure.

  • The trailer starts off with our hero reaching for petals, ones that resemble the location of the final fight in Metal Gear Solid 3
  • When the title screen comes up for the game there are some strange marking across the text, when inserting “Metal Gear Solid V” into there, it becomes a perfect fit
  • The website for Moby Dick Studios claims their CEO is named Joakim Mogren, Joakim is an anagram of Kojima (the creator of Metal Gear Solid) and Mogren contains the word “ogre” the name of Kojima’s secret project
  • The logo for Moby Dick Studios appears to be the tail of a Whale, but upon further inspection it could also be the foot of a T-Rex, The most popular Metal Gear in the MGS franchise is named Metal Gear Rex
  • The lead character in The Phantom Pain seems to have a scar just below his eye, much like that of Metal Gear Solid star Big Boss
  • Members of Konami were seen at the VGAs wearing t-shirts for the game
  • Concept material of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zero sported the tagline “Two Phantoms were Born”
  • A man standing flames in the trailer looks an awful lot like Volgin from Metal Gear Solid 3
  • A horse is seen in the trailer that looks like the one ridden by the final boss in Metal Gear Solid 3
  • The whole trailer seems a lot like a crazy dream, something that a former bad guy named Psycho Mantis is famous for

And that’s it for now, when more information comes in I shall update this post but so far it all seems to be pointing towards one thing. Could this really be a marketing campaign for Meta Gear Solid 5?
