According to an IGN source, the next Xbox (generally refferd to as ‘Durango’) could already be in the manufacturing stage over at Flextronics in Austin, Texas. Said company was also responsible for putting all those lovely chips, bits and polygons into place for both the original Xbox and the Xbox 360, so it would seem fairly safe to assume that Microsoft would utilise the same manufacturer, though hopefully this time they won’t be mared with production issues such as the infamous three red lights.

As Microsoft previously stated that they wouldn’t be revealing their next system at this year’s E3, the production most likely refers to development kits, heading straight to the teams behind the next generation of games, hopefully prepping for an awesome launch line up. IGN also states that Flextronics recently created a new group solely for marketing and testing of both hardware and software for Microsoft’s next machine.

A statement was also provided to IGN from Microsoft, remaining tight lipped as usual when it comes to rumours –

Xbox 360 has found new ways to extend its lifecycle like introducing the world to controller-free experiences with Kinect and re-inventing the console with a new dashboard and new entertainment content partnerships. We are always thinking about what is next for our platform and how to continue to defy the lifecycle convention. Beyond that we do not comment on rumors or speculation

While E3 2012 may not provide us with a glimpse at the next generation of gaming, hopefully more leaks will give us a clearer picture of just how the next system is coming together.
