It is on this auspicious occasion that this humble writer presents his first article for PushStartPlay. Said article is regarding the news of the new Xbox One Experience, the rather dramatic title for what is basically the new dashboard or interface for Xbox One. As well as a redesigned interface, gamers will also be able to play Xbox 360 games for free! That’s right people; your pretty pennies can be used for important things such as earl grey tea.

Let us have a gander at the additions/improvements/tweaks coming to your beloved Xbox One:

  • Xbox 360 games on your Xbox One – From the off you’ll have 100 games from the previous generation to sink your teeth into. An interesting point is that you can play multiplayer with gamers on their 360 consoles. The games can utilise all the features of the Xbox One such screenshots, video captures and DVR. This is a strange move however, as HD remasters seem somewhat redundant if you’re able to spend a fraction of the price on 360 games from many pre-owned sections of retailers.
  • New and improved Xbox Guide – by double tapping the Xbox Button, you are able to access apps such as friends, party or settings. This will remove the need to spend time searching for apps and shortening the time it takes for you to get back to your gaming.
  • Greater sense of community – There will be an entire section devoted for you and your friends to share achievements, discuss games, see what friends are playing and talk to the wider Xbox Live community.
  • Simplified access for games and other media – One Guide will enable access to TV, movies and apps such as Netflix. Next to the One Guide, you’ll be able to access the Xbox Marketplace to browse content more easily without endless searching.

Below is a video showing the new dashboard in action:

Xbox preview members will get early access before the full release in November. This will give preview members a chance to provide feedback so the Xbox team can make any last minute changes. There is one little annoying change that we already know of and that is the new dashboard removes offline mode and replaces it with ‘do not disturb’. This will disable all notifications, but your friends will know you’re online while not being in a talkative mood. The joy of offline is to be able to enjoy your games without any disturbance. We don’t need to tell people we don’t want to be disturbed, that’s what offline mode is for anyway.
