2K Announces New BioShock IS in Development, Under New Studio

After years of rumours and multiple news articles, 2K has officially announced that a new BioShock game is currently in development and it will be developed by a newly formed studio known as Cloud Chamber.  However, 2K has revealed that the new BioShock game in question will be “in development for the next several years”, so it will most certainly be a next-gen title, likely two or three years away at least.

As previously reported, the new studio will be based in Novato, California, but it will also have a second base of operations, located in Quebec, Canada.  Kelley Gilmore will be the Global Studio Head at Cloud Chamber and with her, comes 22 years of industry experience and expertise, which includes working on two lead 2K IP’s such as Sid Meier’s Civilization and the XCOM series’.

Following her appointment as chief of the studio, Gilmore stated that “Our team believes in the beauty and strength of diversity, in both the makeup of the studio and the nature of its thinking. We are a deeply experienced group of game makers, including many responsible for BioShock’s principal creation, advancement and longstanding notoriety, and honoured to be part of the 2K family as stewards of this iconic franchise.

Excited for the future of the BioShock series, the President of 2K, David Ismailer had this to say on this big announcement “BioShock is one of the most beloved, critically praised and highest-rated franchises of the last console generation*. We can’t wait to see where its powerful narrative and iconic, first-person shooter gameplay head in the future with our new studio team at Cloud Chamber leading the charge.

So, there we have it, as we all knew, a new BioShock is in development, but at least we know it’s now official, although we will be in for a long wait indeed.  We do not know at this time whether the new BioShock game will be an extension to the existing series or a reboot, but only time will tell.  However, we do know that original BioShock developer Ken Levine will not be directly involved in this project.  Are you excited by this news?  Share your thoughts across our social media channels.
