Publisher behemoth, Activision, has now confirmed the official release date for the mega-violent, open-world adventure title Prototype 2.

The game will launch for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on April 24th 2012.

But if you can’t wait until then for Prototype 2, then you could always get yourself down to San Diego at this years Comic-Con, where the game will make its first public showing for the fans. And if you can’t get there, then you can expect plenty of gameplay footage soon to satisfy your blood-lust.

Set 14 months after the events of the first Prototype game; players will take on the role of a brand new protagonist, Sergeant James Heller, who goes on a quest to destroy the ravenous Blacklight Virus once and for all, as well as seeking revenge against Alex Mercer (the playable character from the first Prototype), after his family was killed in the outbreak.

As Heller has become mutated like Mercer, being able to shapeshift and assume other people’s identities will still make a critical factor in how you play the game. But this time, Heller has a few other neat (and gruesome) tricks up his sleeve.
