Assassin’s Creed Odyssey #Gamescom2018 Trailers, Main Series to Have 2019 Break
During Gamescom last week, Ubisoft’s Yves Guillemot revealed that there will be no main entry to the Assassin’s Creed series in 2019, with the series taking a year break. This happened quite recently following Assassin’s Creed Syndicate releasing in 2015, with no main entry in 2016 (although we did get the Ezio Collection), and then Assassin’s Creed: Origins released in 2017.
Here’s what Guillemot told GameSpot “”We had a game [in 2018] and we have one this year, but we are not going to have a full-fledged Assassin’s next year,” Guillemot added.”It’s just because the team was working separately, so we have two games now, one year after the other. But next year you’re not going to have a fully-fledged one.“
However, the break won’t mean that we won’t be getting any Assassin’s Creed next year, because we will be getting DLC for the forthcoming Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. Guillemot said “What you’ll have is lots of content coming on [Odyssey]. The team really want to give, on a regular basis, some new possibilities for play, so when you get [Odyssey] this year, you’re going to get in for a couple of years, actually.“
Personally, I was kind of hoping that 2018 would be the break year following Origins, but as Odyssey is looking quite promising, I still think that the main entry series break in 2019 will do the franchise good as it did in 2016. Not only from a creative standpoint, but it also means that fans don’t get burned out like in previous years. However, what really begs the question, if the next Assassin’s Creed releases in 2020, does that mean that the next main entry will be on next gen consoles? It’s quite possible indeed.
