Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate World Premiere Gameplay Overview, Releases October 23rd

The highly anticipated world gameplay premiere has taken place for Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate and boy, does it look stunning.  Even with what is said to be “pre-alpha footage”, it looks fast, fluid and frantic.  Today we not only saw the first gameplay footage, but we also got to see an in-depth gameplay walkthrough and some wise words from the developers at Ubisoft’s Quebec studio.

First up before we get to the various videos below, I’ll give you a recap over of what was said during each vid.  Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate which has been in development for two years will release for the PS4 and Xbox One on October 23rd, with the PC version releasing during “Autumn”.

We also know that AC: Syndicate will be set in London, England during the Industrial Revolution, in the year 1868 to be exact.  It was leaked during the week that not only will we have a male playable protagonist going by the name of Jacob Frye, but he will also be joined by his twin sister Evie.  It is said that much of the campaign will be playable at around 75% with Jacob and 25% with Evie, but you will be able to switch between characters as you wish between missions when exploring London.  Speaking of London, England’s great capital has 7 boroughs to explore within the game.

The story will tell the typical tail of the poor working class folk, rising up against the rich upper class.  The Frye siblings will recruit gang members by taking out the leaders of Gang Strongholds and once the leader is executed, you will recruit the working class citizens to join your ever growing Syndicate.  As your gang recruitment grows, you will be required from time to time to participate in an all-out Gang War in the middle of the street, where the winner takes it all.

The developers at Quebec say that this will be the fastest Assassin’s Creed yet, in terms of gameplay action.  It will also be the most interactive too it seems.  One of you main tools as always will be the Hidden Blade variation that appears in each game.  In AC: Syndicate, the Hidden Blade will be called the Assassin Gauntlet and it will feature a grapping hook (Rope Launcher), which can help you ascend to the top of rooftops, as well as quickly travelling from rooftop-to-rooftop, I assume it will also make a very handy weapon.  Much of the combat weapons of AC: Syndicate will be discreet, such as a Kukri Blade, small revolvers and discreet, but brutal Brass Knuckle dusters.  The developers mention that weapon discretion is a key factor to avoid being arrested by the police, so we’ll have to see how that is implemented into the game.

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate will also implement a Traffic System, which will utilise free travel with the use of Horse and Carriage; the game will also feature trains, which was a means of transport elevated during the Industrial Revolution.  So I will find it interesting especially what the trains will add to the gameplay.  But what we do know is that you will be able to use parkour to run and jump to-and-from vehicles as you attempt to flee and execute.  You’ll also be able to use objects within your environment such as hanging crates to drop upon your unsuspecting enemy (there has to be a hanging piano somewhere).

Right now that’s many of the gameplay features out of the way, below are all the videos released by Ubisoft from the world premiere of Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate.  The first video you see is the whole footage taken from the premiere, then the following two videos are the gameplay walkthrough and debut trailer, both of which are taken from the 19 minute premiere video.

Polygon has reported that during an investor today, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot officially confirmed that AC: Syndicate will have no multiplayer and will be singleplayer only.  He confirmed “This game will be singleplayer,” and he added “You don’t have a multiplayer mode on this iteration,” when speaking of AC: Syndicate, “because we want to spend all our time on making sure the single-player is excellent. And it’s coming along extremely well.

He did say that multiplayer will return to the series at some point, though he kept details close to his chest. “We don’t know and we can’t say yet — er, we know, but we can’t say yet about what will happen next,” said Guillemot.  I think personally this is a wise move, considering all the troubles that were apparent during the launch time of Assassin’s Creed: Unity.  So its perhaps wise to focus on the singleplayer experience, rather than multiplayer and this second screen app malarkey.

The developers also took a brave step in admitting the wrong doings of Assassin’s Creed: Unity, so fair play to them for that, taken from Polygon, the Ubisoft developers said:

AC: U was the first one in the AC brand where we saw that it was a much lower Metacritic,” one staffer observes. Or, as another more bluntly puts it: “It’s like you’re a kid being told you’re ugly and you’re fat. It hurts. Your heart breaks a little bit.

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate will release for the PS4 and Xbox One on October 23rd, then for the PC during Autumn.
