Batman: Arkham Origins Multiplayer Component Confirmed

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment have officially confirmed today that Batman: Arkham Origins will include a multiplayer mode. Now before anyone starts jumping on the hate bandwagon, worried that the singleplayer campaign will suffer as a result, you should be pleased to know that the multiplayer will be developed by a separate team to the singleplayer. This meaning of course that one team will devote their time to the singleplayer and the other to the multiplayer, so neither mode should suffer as a result.

Warner Bros say that the “online component blends the traditional Arkham gameplay with third-person shooter mechanics” and the online mode is being developed by Splash Damage (the team that developed the game Brink) and it will feature a 3 vs. 3 vs. 2. mode. The online mode will allow players to assume control of characters such as Batman (obviously), as well as the boy wonder Robin, and players can even play on the side of iconic villains such as The Joker and Bane. As it stands the multiplayer mode has been confirmed for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, but there is no word of the Wii U version featuring multiplayer as of yet.

The Batman: Arkham Origins Online mode offers players the chance to hunt as Batman or Robin against the most challenging opponents yet, friends and other gamers online. Players can also take on the role of a Super-Villain Elite and get a peek behind the curtain of what it’s like to side with The Joker or Bane as they establish their legacy by taking down Batman and Robin, and anyone else who gets in their way. Fans will even be able call in the ultimate reinforcement to help turn the tide in any match by playing as The Joker or Bane themselves.

Developed by WB Games Montréal, Batman: Arkham Origins features an expanded Gotham City and introduces an original prequel storyline set several years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City. Taking place before the rise of Gotham City’s most dangerous criminals, the game showcases a young and unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight. As the story unfolds, players will meet many important characters for the first time and forge key relationships.

Batman: Arkham Origins will launch worldwide on October 25th for the PC, PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360.
