Here we are, approximately a year and a half after the release of Battlefield 3, and we have seventeen minutes of single player footage from Battlefield 4.

The internet though has once again done its bit to upstage another developer and delivered some leaked screenshots the night before EA/DICE could throw down.

The images come our way courtesy of some people on the NeoGAF forums.

One thing that is immediately noticeable is that the game actually has a colour other than blue present. That and they seemed to have toned down the insane amount of bloom that destroyed your retinas in BF3. It was called an “artistic choice”, but I think EA/DICE just don’t like people to have eyes that work correctly.

So here for your viewing pleasure/pain is the new video just released today. See what you think.

I’m hoping it’s quite a considerable leap from BF3, not in terms of eye candy, but in design. The multiplayer maps were a very hit and miss, and tended to lean toward meatgrinder play. Anyone who played on Operation Metro (AKA Operation Corridor) will know exactly what I mean.

The expansion map packs were much better than the vanilla offerings and gave a great choice in game styles. They weren’t all to everybody’s liking, as you can imagine, the “Battlefield vets” were pretty much rabid at anything other than large maps with vehicular based combat.

I personally got a fair few hours of enjoyment out of the multiplayer, I found some good servers with maps and rules to my liking, then stuck with it. The only map pack I wasn’t keen on was the Close Quarters pack. I don’t think that kind of gameplay suits Battlefield at all, but it’s obvious to see why EA/DICE put it in, broader appeal right?

The single player was, for lack of a better phrase, laughably bad. So pretty much anything would be an improvement over that. However from the video, it looks a lot like horribly over scripted press X to save the world gameplay. I am trying to stay positive about this, but from what little is shown, It looks a little bit like BF3.5 rather than BF4.

Maybe I’m wrong though, maybe it will play superbly and I will eat my words. Maybe it will change the face of modern military shooters for the better. In the short production time though, I seriously doubt it.

There is always a chance though, right? So have your papers ready soldier.
