Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Officially Unveiled. Trailer and Details

“What happens when the enemy steals the keys…” asks SGT. Frank Woods, now retired from the USMC.

Revealed during the NBA Playoffs last night, Activision unveiled the next entry into the Call Of Duty series, and along with some welcome changes to both the environment and time zone, interest has definitely perked on this direct sequel to 2010’s Black Ops from Treyarch.

Now set in 2025, the trailer shows us how far military technology has progressed, complete with a whole host of new aerial and land vehicles, as well as lots of new fancy toys such as remote control Quadrotors and ground vehicles. The setting should work very well in its favour, since as it’s not too far in the future, it’s still relatively believable, complete with technology that is no doubt under development as we speak. The set-pieces are non-stop here, showing a whole range of gameplay scenarios ranging from on foot shooting, to flying through the streets, airstrikes, and even a horse-back chase.

Alongside the trailer, a number of previews and details have been posted to pretty much every website imaginable. Some notable facts include the aspect that Black Ops 2 will take place in two diverse time periods, throwing you into the Cold War both in 1980’s and a near future conflict between the United States and China. Alex Mason will be in the thick of it during the 80’s, whereas his son, David Mason will take up the reigns during the future storyline.

New ‘Strike Force’ missions will allow the gamer to influence how the story will progress with more open and non-linear gameplay, providing a little more choice and variety in contrast to the core linear missions to which Call Of Duty is famous for. The multiplayer aspects will take place in 2025, though apart from showing a couple of the maps to a number of journalists, not many details are known. Zombies will also be making their return, though exactly how they will interact with all this future technology will surely result in some interesting scenarios.

Call Of Duty Black Ops 2 is set for a 13th November 2012 release on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Expect to see more at E3 2012.
