The latest event is now live for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 with Operation Apocalypse Z, which has a key focus on the undead hordes, as well as bringing new multiplayer maps, new locations to Blackout and more to the table.

For starters they’ll be a new Specialist called the Reaper, a heavily armed robot who wields a high-damage machine gun, fittingly known as the Scythe.  The Reaper also has a Radar Shroud, which jams your opponent’s radar, making you and your team undetected for a period of time.

They’ll also be a new multiplayer mode called Sticks & Stones.  In this Free-for-All mode, players will only be armed with a Crossbow, Ballistic Knife and Combat Axe.  Players will earn points for kills and can even bankrupt a player by taking away their points with a Combat Axe kill.  During certain stages of the match, a UAV will sweep, highlighting the leading player with a gold dot on the radar, alerting opposing players to their location, so that they can hunt them down, which sounds quite intense!

For Black Ops Pass owners, three new multiplayer maps will also arrive with Der Schatten (a large snow-covered map), Remnant (a map that takes place in the “Museum of Unnatural History”) and Havana (a remake of the Flashback map from the original Black Ops).

For Blackout, we’ll be getting new locations such as The Haunting Fog, which is said to feature “an eerie fog (that) has settled in Blackout, signalling the onset of the zombie apocalypse.”  And Alcatraz: Nightfall where “zombies have overrun the prison island”, which is now “shrouded in darkness”.  In Blackout there are also two new modes:

  • Quads Fog – A limited-time Quads playlist where cloudy skies hang over an ominous fog.
  • Alcatraz Portals Horde – An Alcatraz game mode with more Zombies enemy types that spawn throughout the map.

Finally for fans of Zombies, Alpha Omega brings a brand new campaign where the Primas and Ultimas versions of characters that we’ve seen in previous missions battle it out together to wage war against the undead army.  The battles will take place on a re-imagined version of the popular Nuketown, which is said to be 400% bigger than the original Nuketown map, which now features an underground labyrinth facility known as Broken Arrow.  There will also be a new perk called Blood Wolf Bite, which summons a wolf called Luna to battle alongside you and the other players, and there will be new enemy variants and weapons to acquire.

Operation Apocalypse Z is active right now for PlayStation 4 and should launch for PC and Xbox One about a month from now.  You can also read up in greater depth on this latest event over at the Treyarch Blog and you can read our review of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 here.
