Camilla Luddington Named as the New Lara Croft

Camilla Luddington has been revealed as the voice and performance actress of Lara Croft in the upcoming reboot of the Tomb Raider series, set to launch March 5th 2013.

The English-born actress, chosen for her depth of emotion and the youthful tone needed for the reimagining of Lara Croft was found through an international talent search in both Europe and the US. She will also be participating at both the Nerd HQ and Comic-Con panels in San Diego, discussing the character and progression of Lara Croft, alongside the development team who will also talk about the story behind the reboot’s creation.

Darrell Gallagher, head of studio at Crystal Dynamics stated –

“This has been one of the most important jobs for us to get right,” “This Tomb Raider game is very different to any other and we are demanding far more from the voice and performance acting than ever before as we take the franchise in a new direction.”

Camilla can be seen in the current season of HBO’s True Blood, and has previously starred in the hit Showtime series, Californication. She also played Kate Middleton in the recent William & Kate.

“It’s an honour… People love Lara and there is such a huge fan base that you don’t want to disappoint. You hope people can embrace the change and re-imagining of her and at the end of the day just have fun playing the game.

Lara Croft has been represented through a wide range of actors in the past including Angelina Jolie, Nell McAndew and Rhona Mitra, though Camilla Luddington is the first to take on both the voice acting and motion-capture work required for the video game.

Tomb Raider will be releasing for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on March 5th 2013.
