Codemasters Acquires Project Cars Developers, Slightly Mad Studios

It seems that Codemasters wants to get a firm grip on the racing sim genre to join the likes of DiRT, GRID and F1, because they have just purchased Slightly Mad Studios, the developers responsible for the Project Cars series.

Frank Sagnier, Chief Executive Officer at Codemasters had this to say on the announcement “We are delighted to bring such an incredible racing game developer to the Codemasters family, and this unequivocally establishes us as a global powerhouse in the development of racing titles,”.  Sagnier went on to highlight the importance of next-gen consoles and streaming platforms “We share the same passion and vision and our new partnership will accelerate our growth. With more streaming services coming to market and the next generation of games consoles due in 2020, this is the perfect time for Codemasters to take its next step.

Ian Bell, Founder and Chief at Slightly Mad Studios added “Our combined racing games portfolio is the envy of the industry and this new partnership will enable us to learn from each other, share resources and take advantage of emerging platforms and technology,”.  Ian Bell went on to say “My team is excited to be joining Codemasters and we can’t wait to forge a relationship based on creativity, passion and the desire to create new racing experiences that excite and delight our communities.

Obviously this is great news for both Codemasters and Slightly Mad Studios, which should raise the bar even further on the fantastic racing games that both have already delivered upon, I’m certainly excited to see what this match made in heaven partnership can conjure up.

It would be safe to assume that Slightly Mad Studios will work on Project Cars 3, but it will also be interesting to see if they get in on some of Codemasters already existing IP’s.  Are you excited by this news?  Let us know across our social media channels.
