Colonies Online – A New Sci-Fi MMORPG Announced

Iron Bit has announced that they are working on a new sci-fi MMORPG game, Colonies Online, which will feature a great number of planets each with an area of thousands square kilometers with the objective to capture them alone, or as a colony with the help of other players. If you build a colony, you can conduct research, craft and store equipment and resources there. You can even take over other peoples colonies to strengthen your foothold. Also, according to the press release,

 “Everything in the game is created by players themselves”. All in-game items are made by players through crafting system. In Colonies Online characters do not advance in level but obtain professions as sets of certain skills. The tree of professions and skills is also determined by the player. The game becomes spicier in open PvP mode, with opportunity to arrange battles of up to a hundred players at a time.

The aspect that stands out to me is the fact, that it will not play like any other Strategy MMORPG games, and will be instead a top-down shooter. This not only makes the game more dynamic, but will hopefully cater to a wider audience like me, who can’t seem to get used to all the clicking involved in an average RPG game. Furthermore, the game promotes Large-Scale battles that take place on many different locations.
