Concept Art And Details Revealed For Limbo Follow-up

PlayDead, the studio behind Limbo, has inadvertently revealed its next project. While they have previously discussed development of a new title, very little was known until now. While it hasn’t been confirmed as a sequel, the dreary atmosphere, rain and muted colour palette sure look familiar. The trail was picked up over on the Danish Film Institute’s website, alongside other projects which have been supported by said organisation.

While the description may be in Danish…with the help of some magical free translation software we have –

Project 2 is – as working title indicates – Playdead’s second major project after the success of the game Limbo. Through unique puzzles and changing scenarios is told the story of a boy’s struggle against evil forces which through dubious experiments on human bodies, are trying to take over world. The game is in colour and set in a 3D environment, while the gameplay is a 2D platforms.

Didn’t do a half bad job did it? It’s nice to see that the follow-up will maintain the 2D platforming gameplay, even if the title will be created in 3D. Alongside that, there’s also a number of other notable details, including that it’s under development for the PS3, Xbox 360 as well as PC and Mac from the outset, and that the DFI have put ~$165,000 towards its development.Limbo’s premise was very mysterious, and left a lot up to the player in terms of the narrative and themes, so it’s nice to see a little more clarification to the backstory. If you haven’t picked up Limbo, you’re beginning to run out of reasons, as it’s now available via Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation Store, and even Steam/OnLive for PC/Mac gamers. There’s a trailer below in case you want to know what you’re getting into…..a fantastic atmospheric puzzle platformer.
