Arkane Studios have just released the debut cinematic trailer for Dishonored. Arriving later this year on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, the unique mix of first person stealth action, traversal mechanics and the freedom it provides the player in terms of how to accomplish their objective, Dishonored is one to keep your eye on.

Their previous titles include the critically acclaimed Arx Fatalis, and with recent additions to the team including designers who worked on Deus Ex, Half-Life 2, and Thief: Deadly Shadows, there’s certainly enough pedigree behind this promising looking title which mixes mechanics from Hitman, Bioshock and Half Life to create a unique title.

The trailer showcases a number of core mechanics in the game such as the freedom of first person movement, the visceral up close and personal combat, as well as the unique powers granted to the player in this diverse world.

Dishonored casts you as a supernatural assassin driven by revenge. You are the once-trusted bodyguard of the beloved Empress. Framed for her murder, you become an infamous assassin, known only by the disturbing mask that has become your calling card. In a time of uncertainty, when the city is being besieged by plague and ruled by an oppressive government armed with strange technologies, dark forces conspire to bestow upon you abilities beyond those of any common man.

In Dishonored, creatively eliminate your targets with the flexible combat system as you combine the numerous supernatural abilities, weapons and unusual gadgets at your disposal. Pursue your enemies under the cover of darkness or ruthlessly attack them head on with weapons drawn. The outcome of each mission plays out based on the choices you make.

Dishonored will be released later this year on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
