Destiny 2 – Changes made to PvP Control mode, Limited Edition Glacier console announced

During one of IGN exclusive Destiny 2 reveals this week, it was announced that some changes will be made to the popular PvP mode known as Control.  Usually in Control, it’s a simple case of control ideally 2 of 3 zones, while attempting to stop the opposing team from taking over them.  The more zones you control, more points will total up and the team with the most points at the end of the match wins.

However now, as soon as a match begins, each of the two opposing teams will instantly have control over one of the three zones, which may force players on both teams to rush into the unoccupied zone as soon as the match begins.  The way in which scoring has also changed, for example, if you have control of one zone, you get one point per kill, two zones equals two points per kill and of course you’ve guessed it, having control of three zones means you’ll get three points per kill.

If you attempt to capture an opposition’s zone, you’ll no longer have to un-capture it, just to capture it.  Now it’s a simple case of going into the zone and having one countdown metre to take over the zone more quickly.  Heavy Ammo (or Power Ammo as it will be known as in Destiny 2) will now appear near each of the two teams opening spawn points, rather than being situated in the middle of a map which results in a mini Royal Rumble between the two teams.  I suppose what this does, is gives both teams a more equal chance of getting the Power Ammo (unless a team is able to strategically take control of both ammo crates).

Matches will now be shorter at eight minutes, you’ll also be able to see at the top of your screen which team members are close to popping their Supers, as well as seeing which team members are down or in need of a revive.  The map that was used to demonstrate the changes to Control was the Endless Vale, which will be one of the available Crucible maps during the Destiny 2 beta, which begins on Tuesday July 18th for those that pre-ordered the game (dates seen below).

You can check out the new map via the four videos seen below, which highlights the changes made to Control, as well as gameplay for both the Warlock and Titan, and even a tour of the map in question.  You can also watch Senior Narrative Lead Jason Harris and Cinematic Lead Matthew Ward from Bungie talk about how they crafted the story of Destiny 2 and the new big bad, Ghaul, the ruthless leader of the Red Legion.

Additionally, a Limited Edition PS4 Pro bundle that includes a copy of Destiny 2 with access to the Expansion Pass and premium digital content has been announced.  Sadly this console isn’t as stylish as the custom made Taken King console, but it still looks rather nifty indeed.

The bundle includes a Glacier White PS4 Pro with a 1TB HDD, a Glacier White Wireless Control and of course as already mentioned, Destiny 2 with all the DLC trimmings.  The Limited Edition Destiny 2 PS4 Pro Bundle will have an RRP of £399.99/$449.99 USD/$549.99 CAN and is available to pre-order right now.

Though going by experience, unless this console is genuinely limited (and I very much doubt it is), I’d hold out until the consoles release day, as retailers such as Game in the UK will likely offer some added bundle deals on the day of release.  I made the mistake of pre-ordering the gorgeous Uncharted 4 Limited Edition PS4 console at its RRP, then when my console was dispatched two days prior to release, I missed out on great bundles which appeared on release day for which Game refused to honour. So if you can, I would seriously advise holding out on pre-ordering for now.

Destiny 2 will release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6th, then for PC on October 24th.
