27 years after its last numbered sequel, in a surprise announcement (to me at least), to celebrate its 30th anniversary, Double Dragon 4 is releasing this month for PC and PS4.  Now this isn’t a remaster, but rather its releasing straight out of the NES era, complete with retro visuals, sounds bites and gameplay.

To make this belated release as authentic as possible, it even includes some of the original development team that worked on the very first Double Dragon instalments, which includes producer Takaomi Kaneko, director Yoshihisa Kishimoto, programmer Kei Oyama, character designer Koji Ogata and composer Kazunaka Yamane.

We don’t know too much about this release as of yet, other then what’s seen in the trailer below, such as it including its classic side-scrolling, beat ‘em up story mode, which will be playable in both 1 player and 2 Player.  It will also feature a two-player duel mode.

The rights to Double Dragon 4 are now owned by Arc System Works, after Technos Japan went bump in 1996.  Arc System Works are more commonly known for the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue series.

Double Dragon 4 will release for PC and PS4 on January 30th.
