#E32016 Resident Evil 7 announced, releases January, its First Person, demo available now!

Resident Evil 7 took to the stage with a wave of crowd excitement.  For years’ fans have been calling for the series to go back to its horror roots and that certain looks to be achieved in its debut gameplay trailer as seen below.  However, it has taken quite a drastic course of action by no longer being in third-person, but rather first-person.  Will this be a good thing to follow in the footsteps to the likes of Outlast, P.T and just about every other horror game jumping on the bandwagon?  That remains to be seen, thankfully if you’re a PS4 owner with an active PS+ subscription, you can download the demo now via the PSN Store which allows you to play the first hour of the game.

A reason for it being in first-person it seems is that the campaign will be playable with the PlayStation VR from start to finish.  I’m not sure how I feel about that, as I’m unsure whether it would lessen the experience for those that don’t intend on picking up the VR device.  One things for sure though, the trailer did seem to capture the horror and tension that fans have longed for.  Resident Evil 7 will also be powered by a new engine created by Capcom tailored to suit its every need with the RE Engine.

Not much is known of the story and its characters as of yet, but we do know that its set in modern day rural America and will feature “a dilapidated cottage” (as seen in the trailer and playable demo), which is located on an “ominous plantation mansion.

I’ll openly admit, that while I’m not overly concerned with it being in First-Person (though I would much prefer it being in third-person), it does concern me a little that it’s been created with the VR in mind.  How will it play, how long with the campaign be and what story will it follow? Will we be in Racoon City or somewhere entirely new? How traditional or new will the enemies be?  Only time will tell.  Now get downloading that demo.

Resident Evil 7 will release for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on January 24th 2017.
