When people think of JRPG’s they tend to think of ridiculous spiky hair, turn-based battles and ludicrous stories set in some fantasy world. They do not think of something set in the 1990’s revolving around a college graduate returning home and solving a mystery via an internet message board. That is what YIIK has to offer though, and they have weaponised pandas to sweeten the deal too.

Developed by Ackk Studios and published by Ysbyrd Games the game first caught my attention at the end of last year when it was announced for the PlayStation 4. Describing itself as a Postmodern JRPG, it definitely has an interesting concept. With such a small team behind it, this really seems like a passion project and hopefully it’s one where the quality of the finished product matches the passion.

You can expect to be playing the game this winter according to the trailer, although it is not clear whether that will be pre-Christmas or at some point in the New Year. Either way watch the trailer below and prepare to be confused.
