Whilst I may not have found this year’s EA Play particularly engaging, I did find some of the indie showings really interesting, especially Sea of Solitude which seems to be tackling dark and mature themes related to mental health and loneliness.

It was particularly touching to hear Cornelia Geppert, the creative director of the game talk about how she wrote her experiences of loneliness and depression onto a page and turned it into something relatable, something that a lot of people will understandably like.

Now the interesting thing to note here is, this isn’t a completely never before seen game, as the prototype demo for the game is still running around on YouTube, and you can see just how much of an improvement has been made so far.

According to the developer, in this world when humans get too lonely, they turn in to monsters. That’s what happened to Kay our protagonist, but she is determined to change back by finding creatures just like her prowling in the ocean. Sea of Solitude will be available early 2019 for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
