EA Games Plan To Discontinue Online Services For The Godfather, Burnout Revenge and more
EA have just announced that they will be discounting online services for some of their older titles beginning April 13th 2012.
“The decisions to retire older EA games are never easy. The development teams and operational staff pour their hearts into these games almost as much as the customers playing them and it is hard to see one retired. But as games get replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the older games dwindles to a level — fewer than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles — where it’s no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping these games up and running. We would rather our hard-working engineering and IT staff focus on keeping a positive experience for the other 99% of customers playing our more popular games. We hope you have gotten many hours of enjoyment out of the games and we appreciate your ongoing patronage.

January 18, 2012 — Change in virtual currencies
On January 18, 2012, EA will switch users from game-specific virtual currencies to a common currency in four Play4Free games. Existing balances in the current currencies will be converted into the new common currency – called “Play4Free Funds” – without loss for the customer. Affected games and currencies are:
Lord of Ultima – diamonds
Battlefield Heroes – battlefunds
Battlefield Play4Free – battlefunds
From January 18, 2012 all games will use Play4Free Funds as the virtual currency. More information will be posted on the respective games’ websites closer to the time of change.
