EA Heats Things up With a New Need for Speed and Collector’s Edition

This generation has been an odd one, for the long-standing Need for Speed franchise. On one hand, we have witnessed the title return to its roots with open-world, underground gameplay. But on the other, we have also watched it spiral out of control in terms of nickel and diming the player. And it appears that the just announced Need for Speed: Heat will be the same, yet completely different in both regards.

Within the accompanying trailer, we can easily see that Heat will be an open world racer. However, there is a spin to it. During the day, you will be able to complete for what the developer describes as Bank, which is the currency used to purchase, and upgrade your vehicles. During the night however, you will be able to use your day-time earnings to earn the title of the underground king, in an array of illegal street races.

EA promises that Heat will be bigger and better, than all the titles which came before it. And it appears that the publisher has taken fan feedback to heart, because from the looks of it, Need for Speed: Heat will not feature the highly controversial and widely despised card mechanic. However, one of the pre-order bonuses, which comes with the Deluxe Edition, promises increased rate of Bank and Rep. So, let’s hope that those will not be as punishing as the cards from previous instalments.

 

Personally, Need for Speed franchise, is one of my favourites – and in my ranking, it only comes second to the Gran Turismo series. So, I truly hope that Heat will bring it back to its former glory of Most Wanted and Carbon. And if the trailer is anything to go by, then it seems that Heat will in fact do that. As what has been shown so far, resonates greatly with the Need for Speed of old. While some may disagree with the fusion of street and circuit racing, then it is very likely that such will give Heat some much needed longevity; and will allow it to reach a wider audience of potential customers.

As mentioned before, Heat will come with a Deluxe version which offers three K.S. Edition styled cars (BMW i8, Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe, Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport), exclusive character clothing, and the abovementioned Bank and Rep boost. Whereas all pre-orders of the standard edition will grant you access to K.S. Edition of Mitsubishi Evo X.

Need for Speed: Heat is set to hit the road on 8^th of November, with 10 hours of early access through EA Access and Origin, on November 5^th for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One.
