Yesterday, ahead of their third quarter financial earnings call for fiscal 2012, EA announced that it had accumulated over 9.3 million registered Origin users since its June 2011 launch, with over 1 million daily users. So, is it safe to say that Origin is a success yet? We can’t be too sure but it did reach a quarter of Steam’s userbase in a fraction of the time it took Valve to do so, that’s saying something.

Here’s a little extra background info. Valve announced that, as of mid-January 2012, its Steam service had generated over 40 million users which resulted in a 100% growth for yet another year. EA can’t boast that just yet, but it does point out that those 9.3 million users “generated more than $100 million in non-GAAP revenue since launch.” This is certainly an impressive number, a number that can only get bigger in the time to come.
