Halo Wars 2 is just around the corner and Microsoft Studios and 343 Industries has released its launch trailer ahead of schedule.  While the trailer features no gameplay, the stunning CGI trailer does a mighty fine job in building up the hype (as any good launch trailer should do).

Taking place after the events of Halo Wars (the Definitive Edition is included in the Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition), Captain Cutter and his UNSC Marines awake from a cryosleep 28 years later.  Only they awake to a new danger courtesy a charismatic Brute leader by the name of Atriox, who will stop at nothing to destroy humanity.

As well as having a full campaign, Halo Wars 2 will have a robust online multiplayer mode pitting players against one another as they forge their best strategies in epic battles to reign triumphant in the online wars.  Halo Wars 2 will also introduce a new multiplayer mode, a hybrid of RTS and deck building strategy called Blitz.

You can watch the brand new launch trailer below.  Halo Wars 2 will release on Tuesday February 21st or the 17th for those that pre-order the Ultimate Edition, which not only includes Halo Wars: Definitive Edition, but also the Halo Wars 2 Season Pass.  If purchased digitally, Halo Wars 2 will also be a Play Anywhere title across Xbox One and Windows 10.
