ESRB reveals Resident Evil 7 plot details (Spoiler Warning)

While Capcom has thus far remained tight-lipped on the Resident Evil 7 plot details, thanks to an ESRB listing, several details have been revealed.  Obviously this article will have some spoilers, so you have been warned.  Below I will talk about those plot details in question.

According to the ESRB listing, the main protagonist will be a male called Nathan.  If you believe the name of Nathan to be familiar in the Resident Evil universe, that is likely because you may have heard his name being mentioned at the very start of the recent “Lantern” trailer (as seen below).  It is said by the ERSB listing that Nathan is in pursuit of his wife, hopefully not a dead wife like we saw with James Sunderland in Silent Hill 2, because that didn’t end to well for dear James.  The listing also mentions a “derelict mansion”, which could be the location seen in the recent trailer and at least that aspect seems to be staying true to the roots of the series.

 

Those that are concerned with the lack of combat that Resident Evil 7 maybe has to offer, you might be happy to know that the listing also mentions weapons such as pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers, explosives and “chainsaws to kill mutant creatures.”  It also says that Resident Evil 7 will have “realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and exaggerated blood-splatter effects.”  Happy days!

We also learned some time ago that Resident Evil 7 will centre on the Booth family.  So the questions remain, how is Nathan and his wife associated with the Booth name?  Is his wife the one being chased in the latest trailer? (more than likely).  Plot twist:  Nathan’s wife gets kidnapped by the family associated with the creepy lady in the recent trailer and thus gets inducted Bray Wyatt style!  The potential plot thickens.

Resident Evil 7 will release for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on January 24^th.
