After yesterdays announcement about Close Quarters Combat content (CQC) coming first to the Xbox One version of Elite Dangerous later this year, devs Frontier Developments have shared a new season of features will be added to the game via a purchasable pack called “Horizons”. In the first content added to the season pass (to give it a more familiar name) players will gain the ability to finally land on 1:1 scale planets and explore them using a brand new Surface Recon Vehicle (SRV) dubbed the Scarab. Scurry over mountains and in deep canyons to seek out crashed ships, mineral deposits to mine and outposts and fortresses to raid for spoils – all without seeing a loading screens or breaks in gameplay. People that don’t pick up the content can still play along in the existing universe with friends/enemies, and will also continue to receive all the free updates, fixes and optimisations that are made to the core game.

The Horizons pass will then carry on introducing major new features and gameplay throughout 2016 offering new ways to play Elite Dangerous. The next content teased will come in Q1 2016 and see the introduction of a new loot and crafting system.

The free PVP add-on “CQC” comes to PC, Mac and Xbox One in September and will be followed in December by another major free content update for all players called ‘Ships’. Ships that will bring the total number of spacecraft to over 30 and will prepare the game for the Elite Dangerous: Horizons content.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons launches “Holiday” 2015. Those that own Elite Dangerous on PC already, can pick up a £10 discount and unlock an exclusive ‘Cobra Mk IV’ in-game spacecraft for a limited time when pre-ordered via the Frontier store. Mac and Xbox One announcements will follow.
