Now here is some very surprising news, one that we definitely did not expect. A handful of developers who had created the blockbuster horror title “F.E.A.R.” have just unveiled details about their new project, “Betrayer”. In Development by Blackpowder Games, Betrayer is to be a unique , open-world action game that puts emphasis on survival. According to the devs,

“We wanted to get back to crafting games more intuitively,” said Creative Director Craig Hubbard. “There’s a sense of discovery and excitement when you navigate by instinct rather than market research and open yourself up to opportunities that arise during development.”

Betrayer looks to be oddly eerie, and immensely intriguing according to its distinct art-style. However, there might be some people who will get put off from this design method. The thing that grabs me though, is how the gameplay reminds me of Far Cry 3. Which, in my opinion is a staple of the open world genre this generation. According to the press release,

Betrayer washes you ashore in the New World in 1604, where you’re expecting to join a struggling English colony on the Virginia coast. Instead you find only ghosts and mysteries in a land drained of color and life. You’ll build up an arsenal of weaponry including muskets, crossbows and throwing axes, collecting untold treasures along the way. Chart your own course through an untamed wilderness teeming with danger and discovery as you search for survivors and unravel the colony’s many mysteries, including the identity of the strange, silent woman in red who helps from afar.

Personally I can’t wait to get my hands on this title, and luckily for me and others who want to try this game, it will be available for Steam “early-access” on the 14th of August! In the mean time, be sure to check out the launch trailer below!
