Far Cry 3 was the big surprise of last year, and in the past 12 months has been teasing us with its villain – Vaas Montenegro – asking if we know the meaning of insanity. Every piece of footage we’ve been shown has done nothing to satiate our appetites but instead continue building the hype for what is looking to be a phenomenal game. This latest trailer is no different:

Showing the previously dubbed “frat boy” main character now in command of the island warrior natives, he starts to take the fight directly to Vaas, showing off the multiple gametypes in a single span. First up is the exploration, with the player character taking a swim to stealthily infiltrate an encampment, complete with underwater takedown. Next we see him stalk through the jungle with a bow and arrow before the defecation hits the oscillation and the high powered automatic weapons come out. Jumping from combo takedowns to clambering obstacles to gun play to escaping a burning building to a confrontation, the action just doesn’t stop. It’s all very fast and exciting.

Then we come face to face with Vaas himself, who through the use of a hallucinogen brings us into the insanity, showing twisted flashes of people we know morphing in and out of focus, before telling us that we and him are the same, and that we must face our insanity. It’s a hell of a lot more interesting that malaria, that’s for sure, and you can count me in for a day one purchase. All told it just looks fantastic.

If, like me, you want to pick this game up day one then make a note of  September 6th 2012, when it will be available for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3
