It seems every week there’s something new to say about Final Fantasy. That is why we thought it would be a good idea to run a weekly roundup of Final Fantasy news so you can have it all in one place. First up this week is the release of Final Fantasy VII on iOS coming seemingly out of nowhere. Not only that, but it brought with it some nifty features to make it a more enjoyable mobile experience.

There are two key things, both of which may convince some people that have already played the game to pick it up again. The first is the option to turn-off random encounters on the world map. The second is an easy way to max your stats. You can pick up the game for £11.99 for iPhone and iPad over on the App Store and you can watch the launch trailer below.

Staying with mobile devices, a classic mini-game from Final Fantasy VIII is available for all to play. Simply download the Final Fantasy Portal App to your iOS or Android device and you will see an option to play the popular card game Triple Triad. The Portal is a handy way to keep up to date with the latest happenings in the world of Final Fantasy and to celebrate the launch, Square Enix have thrown in one more treat. Until September 1st players will be able to get a free download of the paid in-app game Final Fantasy (Portal Version). For more information visit the Final Fantasy Portal website.

The final bit of Final Fantasy news to come out of this week is the launch of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD on PC. I had a great time when I played the game earlier this year for review. It’s a genuinely fun game to play with some of the most satisfying combat I’ve witnessed in a JRPG for years. It was a shame however that graphically it felt like a fairly basic upgrade of the PSP version (and the English dub is truly awful).

The initial reaction on Steam for the game has been lukewarm and it sounds like another case of badportitus (it’s a real condition) that seems to rear its head these days whenever a console game comes to PC. Keep an eye on it though, because if it can sort out its framerate issues, among other things, then it really is a great game with some truly addictive combat.
