Everyone’s favourite ragtag group of floppy-haired eco-warriors could be heading to Steam, a leak suggests.

It was noticed, over on the GOG forums, that Square-Enix had registered the domain FinalFantasyVIIPC on June 15th. Since then the site has been taken down but Google Cache retains the evidence.

The new version will have 36 achievements, enable cloud saving (hah), include new stat-boosting items, and provide online profiles so that your materia level can become the talk of the town.

Whilst this isn’t the FFVII news the dedicated are praying for, it does mean that Square-Enix could release a patch to tighten up the visuals a bit and perhaps go some way towards nulling the pain the PS3 tech-demo left in its wake.

It looks like this foray into Midgar is going to set you back £7.99, the same price as its iOS release.
