Back in December last year, developers Telltale Games announced that they would be working with DC Comic’s to bring us an original Batman game.  Since that time, we’ve not heard any details on their adaptation, until now.

At the SXSW Gaming Expo in Austin, Texas, Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller and the developers at Telltale revealed some all-new juicy details.  The first of which is that their Batman game will be running on an improved version of the engine that powers the likes of The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands, and it will be releasing this summer.  We can also expect the Batman game to retain the comic book art-style that we have come to expect from the studio.

It was also revealed that you will play as Bruce Wayne during the day and Batman during the night.  The decisions you make during each day segment, will have a knock-on effect on the other.  So for example, if as Bruce Wayne you ignore some potential criminal activity during the day, it could very well have consequences on what happens during the night when playing as Batman.  So more than ever before, you’ll really have to think about the decisions you make.

The story will also not be tied to any iterations of the Batman media, whether it be via videogames, films or the comics.  While you will play as Bruce/Batman, the story will not focus on his “extended Bat-family” such as Nightwing, Robin or Batgirl, etc.  However, we can expect Bruce/Batman to have character relations with Alfred Pennyworth, Vicki Vale, Commissioner James Gordon and Renee Montoya.  Telltale Games wouldn’t reveal any details as to which villains we can expect to see in the game, but they will reveal more details as we get closer to its release date in the summer.

As with other games from Telltale, certain characters will have “a deep personal relationship with Bruce in his private life and decisions made as Bruce or Batman will affect their paths towards corruption or redemption.

Last but not least, Batman will have a M (Mature 17+) rating, which in the UK should be an 18 rating.  So hopefully we can expect it to have very mature themes.  With E3 fast approaching this June, some gameplay footage (or at least screenshots) shouldn’t be too far away.
