One of coolest surprises during The Game Awards was perhaps the release of The Astronaut’s upcoming Witchfire, which innocently started with you slowly walking around a beautiful environment before the text stating that it is by the developers behind The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. At this point I was sure it was gonna be a VR or exploration puzzle game, but then WHAM! out comes the gun and PainKiller/Bulletstorm are mentioned.

It was indeed a very clever reveal that completely kicked up the adrenaline. There isn’t much known as to what the game is about, except for you kicking some demon looking ass, since the game is very early in development and The Astronauts just wanted to remind us that they were still very much alive and kicking.

Witchfire uses the photogrammetry tech that was previously used in The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, allowing them to create lush environments and structures for unparalleled visual quality with a natural, organic look and feel. No release date as of yet, but it is rather far away for now.
