Gamescom: New Titanfall Gameplay Demo

Once you’ve stopped drooling on your keyboards, let me just have your attention for a few minutes. Done now? Right then.

Most of you will be well aware of the hype surrounding this game. It’s not hard to see why it’s causing such a stir within our geeky ranks. Those clever guys at Respawn Entertainment, formally of Infinity Ward, have introduced the concept of trying to combine the epic moments in single player games, with the fast past, seat-of-your-pants action of multiplayer. And my oh my haven’t they done it well?

You can see the attempt to inject some narrative to the multiplayer and to be honest, it looks damn good. I’m not expecting Shakespeare, or anything close, but it does seem to add something to the gameplay. That’s not to mention being able to stomp around in a huge mech; the action between foot and mech is superb and it seems that there are multiple ways to take the titans down, alleviating any cries of imbalance… Yeah actually that will still happen, sorry, silly me.

Most interestingly, the match doesn’t just end suddenly when you’re defeated, instead you have to high-tail it to an extraction drop-ship, thus keeping with the narrative form of the game.

So far, I’m totally sold and will be picking this up on PC the instant it arrives. If you needed another example of the story telling involved however, have a watch of this trailer below.

There is no set release date yet, but as a launch title for Xbox One, you would expect it to be later this year.

Prepare for Titanfall.
