Grave-01

With indie horror games such as the terrifying Outlast already out on the PS4 (also PC) and with Daylight out at the end of this month also for the PS4, Xbox One owners have been waiting patiently for an excellent indie horror game of their own.  Well the wait will be over (though you’ll still have to wait until early 2015) as a game from indie developers Broken Window Studio has been announced with Grave.

Grave is being funded by a Kickstarter campaign and will be adopted by the ID@Xbox program which has been created for indie developers like Broken Window to create great games and release them on the Xbox One platform.  Grave is a survival horror game that is said to “feature a fusion between modern horror and classic survival horror gameplay elements.”  It will also feature dynamic changing worlds which will mix “unnatural imaginary and fantastical creatures.”  As well as having a unique day and night cycle which is said to have you “fear the night, hope for day.

It all sounds very interesting and is a game that I am already very much looking forward to, have a look for yourself with the gameplay trailer and screenshots below.

Grave will release for the PC, Mac and Xbox One early next year.  You can get an early taste of Grave by downloading a PC demo HERE.

Below is the official press release for Grave:

Grave Headed To Xbox One- PC, Mac, and Linux, Xbox One Grave, the first person surrealist-inspired horror title by Broken Window Studios has officially been adopted by the ID@Xbox program, and is scheduled to launch on the Xbox One in early 2015. The Xbox One is the first officially support console platform for Grave, in addition to its release on PC, Mac and Linux.

Grave is built in the Unity 3D engine, and will be taking advantage of the ID@Xbox partnership with Unity Technologies. The team is working hard to build Next-Gen visuals into the title, and plans to take advantage of many of the new lighting and shading techniques possible with the upcoming Unity 5.

The arrangement with Microsoft is not an exclusive deal, so it is likely to expect additional consoles will be announced in the near future. The goal is to offer feature parity across all consoles. We will provide more information as it becomes available.

Grave’s brand of surrealist dreamscape will be a unique addition to Microsoft’s console. The team’s goal is to create the “Destino” or “Eraserhead” of games, by experimenting and redefining the player’s interaction with the game’s narrative. The game is currently on Kickstarter, and is one third of the way towards completing its goal.

Game Features:

  • Surreal gameplay challenges your perceptions with dynamically changing worlds, unnatural imagery and fantastical creatures. Anything can happen and the experience is constantly unpredictable.
  • Unique day-night gameplay woven into the experience – split gameplay between survival and exploration. Fear the night, hope for day.
  • Frightening AI creatures each react differently and require a unique strategy to defeat.
  • Non-traditional weapons for defending yourself against the creatures of the night, including matches, flashlights, flares, generators, fire and more.
  • Compatible the Oculus Rift on PC, so you can fight off creatures of the night in virtual reality.
