During a Q&A session at the Tokyo Game Show, Hideo Kojima has stated that his newest project Death Stranding will release sometime during 2018.  Well in-fact he said that it will release before the next Olympic Games (2020), but will also release before the year in which the movie Akira is set (2019), which pretty much means that the release window for Death Stranding should be 2018.  However, of course this is not set in stone and delays very well may happen.

Courtesy of IGN, here’s snippet of what Hideo Kojima said exactly at the Q&A;  “It will be out before the Olympics,” said Kojima, “To go a little further, there is a movie called Akira, and it will be out before the year in which Akira is set.

Hideo Kojima was present on stage with Yoji Shinkawa, who was a character and mechanical designer with him for the Metal Gear series, who is now working with Kojima on Death Stranding.  While Kojima gave very little away on the game, he did elaborate a tiny bit more on the online component of Death Stranding (for which he spoke briefly about last week) by saying that “It will be a different kind of online play than anything we’ve seen before.

Kojima also revealed that Death Stranding will include a female protagonist, alongside the character that Norman Reedus is portraying, although casting is still underway for that female character.  He also confirmed that the game will be running on a “well-known” third party engine and not one that has been handmade by himself.  Additionally, Shinkawa also teased that Death Stranding may feature mech’s.
