From Indie Studio, Zen Studios (CastleStorm, PinballFX), KickBeat is a rhythmic fighting game. Released in September 2013 on the PlayStation Network, it makes its way over to PC via Steam with all shiny new additions. Play along with the music to kick the butt of groups of enemies and progress through the game to a kick ass soundtrack. KickBeat also offers a mode similar to Audiosurf in that you can use your own music of choice and it will generate a level around the song, though it does already come with a small selection of music (you can check out the track list below) including some tracks from Indie platformer Electronic Super Joy.

Alongside having an awesome soundtrack, there are some small changes made from the feedback gained via the PSN version. As with most things that end up arriving on Steam there has been a slight graphical improvement. KickBeat also has full keyboard customisation and controller support – somehow I imagine the game being a lot nicer to play with the controller as it’s a console port, but time will tell once it has been released.

Difficulty wise, there has been a change to the progression from the PSN version to allow players to adapt better to the difficulty curve of the game. Free Play also has advanced difficulties available from the get-go as well, so you can just jump straight into playing the harder difficulty. Instead of having to complete the single player campaign to unlock “Beat Your Music” mode (to allow you to use your own songs), it’s unlocked a lot earlier in the campaign so you can play with your own tracks faster.

KickBeat arrives on Steam on the 20th January 2014.
