Konami Renews Trademark for Silent Hill

Konami has renewed their trademark for Silent Hill, which was set to expire this coming December.  But what does this mean for the series?  Knowing Konami, probably not a lot, but it at least it shows that they have some invested interest in the series, no matter how small that might be.

The trademark was renewed with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and you might find some hope in knowing that this trademark has nothing to do with Konami’s Panchinko or Pachislot gambling machines.  So what does the trademark cover?  Well it covers Goods and Services, which includes videogame products, here’s what the trademark description reads:

“Providing on-line video games; providing on-line computer games; providing information in the field of video games; providing information in the field of computer games; arranging, organizing and conducting video game competitions; arranging, organizing and conducting computer game competitions,”.

We all know how Konami works by now, especially after they cancelled Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills reboot, which then followed in his messy departure with the company.  And it’s crazy to think how hyped fans were for that game, and Konami just killed it, before it even got started.  So I think we all know not to get too excited by this news, but at least we can hold on to a small glimmer of hope that we might see this iconic survival horror series again.
