At today’s Metal Gear event “METAL GEAR 25th ANNIVERSARY PARTY”, Konami showed off its brand new Fox Engine. The engine’s demo ran footage of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes on a PC. It’s for an upcoming open-world game that will allow for new types of gameplay for the famous character.

“This announcement is a challenge from Kojima Productions to the world,” said Hideo Kojima.

Challenged to fight for the world.

In the demo, Snake crawled to avoid the searchlights. After a quick stealth kill, he hopped in a jeep and called in a helicopter for evac. The concept behind Ground Zeroes is that this is a “Game without Game Over”. So even if a player is discovered in this stealth title, the part where the game would usually end (their discovery) turns into their escape. It sounds like Kojima Productions is adding a new spin on the sneaking genre—a genre the developer is a master of.

Looking at the picture, we can firmly say that this will feature Big Boss (Naked Snake) as he is wearing the Militaires Sans Frontiéres (MSF) Outfit from MGS: Peace Walker.

The Fox Engine was revealed in mid 2011 and its development began after the completion of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots with the goal of making the “best engine in the world.” The engine will make it possible for Kojima Productions to develop multiplatform games with a significantly shortened development time.
